The idea

Phones die at the worst time, and venues want patrons to stay. Chargeroo puts self-serve charging kiosks in pubs, clubs and breweries, where you rent a power bank in under a minute and drop it back at any station. The hard part was running a multi-venue network as a lean operation, with no staff on site and no support team.

The challenge

The build

Four pieces, working as one system: the rental platform, the payments and hardware, the AI that answers the phone, and the dashboards that run the network.

The rental platform

chargeroo.au, built in React on Supabase and Netlify. Scan the QR on a station, see what's available, and rent in under a minute. Clean pages for stations, locations and how it works, all built for search.

Payments and hardware, wired together

Stripe places a hold for the deposit, the station releases a power bank through the ChargeNow hardware, and the deposit refunds itself when the bank comes back. A secure proxy sits between the site and the kiosks so nothing is exposed.

Roo, the AI that answers the phone

Roo is a voice assistant that picks up every customer call, day or night. It helps with charging issues, refunds, finding a station, lost items and faulty machines, handles venue enquiries, and only passes a call to a person when it has to. Every call is summarised and emailed automatically.

Venue portal and admin

Venues get their own login with analytics, photos and lead capture. The admin side runs the network: stations, venue invites, reporting and monthly digests, all from one dashboard.
