Skip these (and why)

More listings is not better past a point. Submitting to low quality link farms can dilute your citation signal, and buying links breaks Google's spam policy. Stop at roughly 30 quality directories.

Avoid or approach with caution

  • Paid "high DA" backlink gigs (Fiverr link packages and similar). Selling links is exactly what Google's link spam policy targets. Real risk, no lasting reward.
  • Bulk "200+ directory" blasts (ZipLeaf, InfoIsInfo, businesszoom, eclickd and similar). Low traffic, thin indexation, easy to get inconsistent NAP.
  • Auto-submission software. It trips spam filters at Yelp, Google and ProductReview. Submit by hand.
  • Come On Aussie, SiteLike, scrib.li, generic "submit URL" sites. Citation-volume only at best. Not worth prioritising, and some charge fees despite looking free.

The 6 rules that matter

  • Identical NAP everywhere. Pick one exact name, address and phone format and never deviate. This is the single biggest factor.
  • One canonical website URL. Decide on www or non-www once, then use it on every listing and in your footer.
  • Three description lengths. Write a 60, 150 and 300 word version so duplicate-blocking directories still index unique text.
  • Most specific category wins. Always choose the narrowest category available, then add secondaries.
  • 10 to 20 real photos. Listings with photos get noticeably more clicks and directions requests.
  • Add your ABN wherever the field exists. It strengthens entity verification in Google's Knowledge Graph.

The reviews play

  • After a job, send one SMS with three links in order: Google first, then ProductReview, then Facebook.
  • One request, multiple platforms converts better than asking on separate occasions.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad. Response signals count.
  • Re-audit every 6 months. Directory ownership and link rules change (True Local, Yellow Pages and others have all shifted).
